Andrea and I signed up through NPMA to do a day tour to Salem and we were super excited because Salem in October is supposed to be really interesting. They have what they call "Halloween Happenings" and each weekend involves lots of neat street activities, EVERYONE dresses up and of course they bank in on the Salem Witch Trial connection.
We got up and took the Salem Ferry with the group and when we arrived learned that we were only touring Nathaniel Hawthorne's house and the House of Seven Gables (which his famous book is written about). Not what we were planning as we wanted to see the town. So, as the guys say, we called them and went "rogue"! We saw the house quickly and then walked to town. We LOVED it! It was bustling with people and activity. It was so beautifully New England in fall!
We visited the oldest candy shop in the US, walked the shops, watched all the costumed people, passed by the children's parade, took a rickshaw ride with a zombie driver blasting "Thriller" through the middle of the closed off street (HIGHLIGHT OF THE TRIP!!), ate a delicious Lobster Roll and met some locals at Rockafella's, took a bunch of pictures, visited the Samantha from "Bewitched" monument, and navigated our way back to Boston on the train!! We had the best day and loved every minute! I definitely want to visit Salem again when I have more time.
