Great Spring Break Road Trip - Day 5

On Day five Ben and I got up very early (to a delicious breakfast courtesy of Papa Fred!) and drove to San Antonio.  Our first stop was Pinto Ranch where I perused the cowboy clothing and boots. And, found my cowboy boots!!

Afterwards we checked into our hotel, The St. Anthony Wyndham then headed to the Riverwalk.  We were starving so lunch at Rita's on the River was our first order of business followed by a narrated river cruise.  At the end of the cruise we started our hours of walking.  We were so excited to tour one of our nation's most famous historic sites...The Alamo!  It was definitely NOT what I expected.  It was much smaller and less grand than I had always imagined, but it was really neat to see and the grounds were very pretty.

Our next walk took us to the Tower of the Americas, built for the 1968 World's Fair.  I didn't realize that although not as popular, it is taller than the Stratosphere in Seattle.  They also have a really cute 4D "journey" through Texas movie.

All of this walking wore us out so we went back to the hotel to rest for a while.  Later in the evening we walked the other direction to El Mercado, which was dead and then back to the Riverwalk for dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. (Ben's choice, of course!)

We both slept so good that night after our drive and walking.  We even slept in the next morning getting on the road back to Houston later than planned.  With a lunch stop at our new favorite (why can't there be one in SC??) What-A-Burger we arrived early afternoon .
