On Friday morning we woke up really, really early to catch a shuttle over to Planet Hollywood Hotel. There we checked in for our day trip to the Grand Canyon and grabbed a light breakfast. We travelled by bus from Las Vegas to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Upon arrival we were checked (and weighed!) in for the first part of our trip....a helicopter ride down to the floor of the GC. It was incredible!!! The views were gorgeous and flying in a helicopter ride was amazing. When we landed we hopped on a pontoon boat with Peggy and Penny and three other couples (one of which was from Charlotte...although she was originally from, get this, Spartanburg! Ha! Shows how small the world really, really is...) for a float down the Colorado River. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I can't even begin to describe the beauty and unbelievable views. From here we helicoptered back up to the rim where we were NOT in Grand Canyon National Park, but on Hulapai Indian land. There were shuttles to take us to three locations. The first one is where the skywalk is built (go check it out online...it is a glass horseshoe that goes out over the canyon). Glenn and I neither like heights, but we were SOOOO brave and did it! They won't let you take anything out there --- no purses, no cells, no cameras....and,yes, it was scary, but I am so glad we did it!
After this stop we headed to Guano Point (yes that translates to "bat poop" point...notice in the pictures we had lunch at Guano (or, Bat Poop) Cafe....we thought that was too funny to pass up and it was one of the meal locations included in our tour!) where the views (and meal!) were wonderful.
Last stop was Hulapai Ranch. I think the pictures will say a lot about how much fun we had checking out this "dude ranch". My only complaint of the day....we were all supposed to be back on the bus at 3:30 for the return trip to Vegas. One Family, SIX PEOPLE, kept everyone else waiting for 1 and a half hours for them to decide they were ready to go. I won't say anymore or it will make me mad all over again!
This was a wonderful, exciting and beautiful day that I can say I will never forget!
