Myrtle Beach Days

For the first time ever (not counting a five day youth chaperone trip) I spent an entire week --- 7 nights --- at Myrtle Beach on vacation. It was wonderful!! We stayed in the guest apartment at Maisons Sur Mer, which was fabulous... the apartment was nice and spacious, with an ocean and pool view. Maisons also had a small gym, tennis courts, putting green (which we didn't use), a game room (which Ben loved), pool, cabana and beach access (which we used every day!). We could not have asked for better weather, either. It was sunny ( few storms/showers in the evenings) and not too hot at all.

This vacation turned out to be a real "family" vacation. When we arrived Glenn's grandmother and Mr. Rick were there. They left on Sunday, but his stepmom, Belinda and her friend, Hilda arrived. Hilda left on Wednesday; Belinda stayed. And, Glenn's dad arrived on Thursday! We had so much fun with everyone!

We arrived on Saturday, unpacked, stocked the kitchen, packed the beach bag and cooler and headed straight to the ocean! After a few hours we showered and changed. Mrs. Matthews, Mr. Rick, Glenn, Ben and I had dinner at Cagney's before returning to our apartment to watch the USC/Clemson baseball game. We celebrated a Gamecock win that night! (All of us except Mrs. Matthews are Carolina fans....she joined us but didn't watch!)

On Sunday, Glenn cooked breakfast. (He lost a basketball finals bet --- if the Lakers won he had to cook breakfast each day; if the Celtics won I had to cook. I'm such a nice person though, I only made him cook this one time. However, to his credit, he helped me with every other meal we cooked!) We then went up to say good-bye to Mrs. Matthews and Mr. Rick. We lolled at the pool, ventured to the outlets, back to the pool to say hello to Belinda and Hilda, cooked in and then B and H came over after their dinner to spend the evening.

Monday was beach day again. We got Ben a boogie board so he and Glenn had a blast "surfing". Monday evening was the first final game in the College World Series --- USC vs. UCLA. We decided to go down the street to Ultimate California Pizza for dinner and to watch the game. They had a huge gameroom so Ben was able to play for a while and the pizza was delicious. Belinda and Hilda joined us and we had a great time. Again, we celebrated a Gamecock win!! :)

Tuesday was a special treat --- Belinda took all of us to Ocean Dunes, the beach/pool club they belong to. It was absolutely gorgeous. We sat by the pool, enjoyed refreshing drinks, delicious lunches (Ben had not one but TWO BLTs!), swam, played ladder ball and cornhole and just enjoyed wonderful company. After naps, Belinda and Hilda joined us to grill out steaks and watch the final game.......which, perfectly fitting that we were in Myrtle Beach and not Columbia watching on a small TV instead of G's big one.....the GAMECOCKS WON!!!!!!!! We celebrated a historic Gamecock win that night!!

Wednesday was our "lazy" day. Everyone had gotten a lot of sun, a lot of swimming and we were just tired. We spent most of the day laying around, reading and just relaxing. For dinner, Glenn, Ben, Belinda and I headed to Collector's Cafe -- a wonderful coffee shop, restaurant and art gallery all rolled in to one. It was fabulous. I enjoyed salmon, while Ben loved the scallops. Ben was super excited to wear his new sports coat and tie! He looked like such a handsome young man!! Unfortunately, later that night Ben kept us up all night ---- he got sick. We felt very sorry for him, as it was obvious he was just plain miserable.

Thankfully when we got up on Thursday Ben was 110% better. As a matter of fact, you would have never known he had been sick at all. He had more energy than we did! Thursday was a back to the beach day spent again sitting in the sand, dipping in the water, and wakeboarding for the boys. In the afternoon we headed out to do the one thing Ben wanted the whole week --- PLAY PUTT PUTT. I was not excited, but ended up having a blast. Glenn googled "best putt putt" and we decided to try it out. What fun!!! On Thursday night, Glenn's parents took us to Ruth's Chris for dinner. Again, fabulous. It sits on the waterway and so the sunset and view was beautiful. The dining room was gorgeous and the food scrumptuos. This time I opted for the petite filet and Ben had the shrimp. I had told him about my RC favorite --- the sweet potatoes --- so we ordered those and they were divine! (Once again Ben wore his sports coat and a different new tie...for some reason he loves ties!)

By Friday, we were a little sad. It was the last day and it had been such a terrific week. Glenn went to a men's store in the morning with his dad, while Ben and I headed to the pool. We stayed there for a long time, showered and decided to head out for a few hours. We went up to Barefoot Landing and walked around. We dined on the water at Greg Norman's Restaurant. It was a beautiful view with yummy food. We went back to the outlets to look at Kate Spade purses, but I couldn't find the one I liked originally so I ended up with a seersucker dress from Brooks Brothers and Glenn bought me a new Kenneth Cole watch. So, we made a few good deal purchases. Later, we drove by Broadway at the Beach, but it was packed so we opted not to stop. Instead we stopped for dinner at a Mexican restaurant and then played another round of putt-putt at a different course. Glenn and I ended it with a walk on the Apache Pier, where a band was playing midway out. It was the perfect ending to a perfect vacation!

Saturday, we said good-bye to our temporary home for the week, the pool, the ocean. And, headed back to Columbia. I think we're already ready for next summer and another beach vacation!! :) (On a side note: I took 200 pictures. I edited to these for the slideshow, but will be posting a few others that I really liked that wouldn't work in the slideshow! ENJOY!)
